People who own their homes are always finding different ways to make their home looking fabulous. Home designs personifies the person who lives in the home because based on the accessories, palettes and furniture you would be able to distinguish if the home owner is a male, female or be able to categorise their age. It may sound subjective but it is just the inevitable.
Through the years, interior design emerges based on the sign of times and human’s ever-changing choices or options. Some themes are based on Victorian, Beach Cottage, Art Deco, American Colonial, Arabian, Mediterranean, French, English Country and the list goes on and on, but one of the most popular among these is Shabby Chic (otherwise known as Cottage Chich or Beach Cottage Chic). More often than not, shabby chic interior has a soft feminine look because of the colour and the accessories used.
In this type of interior design, you would need to incorporate a lot of shabby chic home accessories. This does not have to be expensive and in fact some people are creating their own shabby chic home accessories from scratch because it is that so easy!
Starting your shabby chic project:
Shabby chic are usually done by what they call “distressing” the top coat or finishing creating a time-worn look. When it comes to fabrics, anything white or pastel in colour is the most commonly used and is usually made from cotton or old French linens.
I believe that doing the shabby chic theme does not only beautify your room or home but it also promotes environment care. This is because instead of throwing away old bottles or tin cans, you can recycle and DIY (do it yourself) them to create the look. Wood can be painted with white and use vinegar to create a distressed look to the furniture. Old paper can be used as a papier Mache and painted white or pastel colour. Use them as a decoration to your home.
Imagine tons of bottles or mason jars or tin cans being piled up in your garage and instead of throwing them away to entirely melt away and can provide huge risk or harm to Mother Nature, why not give them a new look and bring it back to your living room as a flower vase or it could also be used as jars to store sugar, coffee, tea, etc.?
Shabby chic home accessories is not only limited to small items but you also give your old bed frame a new look, an old refrigerator as a cabinet, chandeliers, dining table, etc. It does not matter what as long as you stick to the theme. A lot of things can be done and can be used as a well-worn storage or things to hold your favourite books with.
There are so many things that you can use and only your imagination is the limit to this type of DIY. This is also a great activity that you and your kids can do.
